Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the inside of a body.

It shows the movement and structure of the internal organs. The direction of blood flow and velocities is determined using colour Doppler techniques. An ultrasound does not use ionising radiation.

Pelvis (full bladder): Female – uterus, ovaries and adnexa. Male (full bladder): prostate and bladder (before and after urination)
Abdomen and pelvis: liver, spleen, kidneys, gallbladder, biliary tract, pelvic organs (male or female) and intestines
